City Guide-Brentwood Country Mart Edition

In Brentwood Country Mart, city guide on March 1, 2010 at 9:08 pm

Whenever someone visits me from out-of-town, I always recommend stopping by the Brentwood Country Mart. From the outside, it looks like a simple general store, however, as soon as you enter, you quickly realize that the Mart is far more sophisticated than what it appears to be. It is a petite shopping center that has a number of retails stores, restaurants, and services all conveniently tucked away on the border of Santa Monica and Brentwood.  The mastermind behind the Country Mart is developer, Jim Rosenfield-a longtime resident of Brentwood. He is following suit with a Marin County and Montecito version of the country mart.

The retail stores have changed over a few times, but certain restaurants and services are legendary if you live in this part of town.

What I love about the Mart is there is really something for everyone-all ages, all styles, all budgets. Here are a few of my favorite stores:

Calypso Home

The Facade of Monocle

Roberta Roller Rabbit

Post26-a fun boutique brimming with the latest styles. This is where I waited in line for my Anya Hindmarch “I’m Not a Plastic Bag” bag a few years back!

Caylpso-it always makes you want to go on vacation. Really fun resort wear, jewelry and accessories.

Broken English-Some of the most beautiful and delicate and intresting jewelry.

Poppy Store-the cutest children’s store around. Hunters and Petit Bateau-pint size!

Monocle Store-Pick up the latest issue or a back issue of one of the cooler mags out there.

Calypso Home-a great home store with Ankasa, John Robshaw, Oly and Roost.

Sugar Paper-My favorite stationery/letterpress store ever. Read more here.

Roberta Roller Rabbit-great printed bedding and home accessories

Reddi-Chick-Absolutely nothing beats a basket of chicken tenders and fries. Enough said!

Barney’s Burgers-when chicken doesn’t sound right, opt for a salad or burger.

All the restaurants here surround an outdoor eating area with giant fire pit- so cozy.

The US Post Office Annex/General Store-I love that I can buy a Maison de Vacance pillow at Calypso Home, then send a letter, buy a magazine, and buy a paper glider all in half an hour. The cutest Post Office/General Store that makes you feel miles away from the hustle of LA.

Country Mart Shoe Repair-Cleaned up my Chanel Bag to look like new and dyed a friend’s Balenciaga from White to Black. One of the absolute best Shoe/Handbag repair shops in Los Angeles.

Don’t Miss-

Pony Rides and Petting Zoo on Sunday

Fresh Produce Pick Ups on Thursday.
