Spotlight on: Massimo Vitali

In inspiration, photography on January 26, 2010 at 6:05 pm

Lately, I’ve been loving the work of Massimo Vitali. He is an Italian born photographer most well-known for large-scale photographs that ” illuminate the apotheosis of the herd” To the innocent eye, his photographs depict people at play and masses at leisure. Yet they are far more politically charged than that.   According to Vitali, they depict ” a sanitized, complacent view of Italian normalcies” while also revealing ” its cosmetic fakery, sexual innuendo, comodified leisure, deluded sense of affluence, and rigid conformism.” Regardless, they are beautiful to look at.  I’m drawn to the colors and the sense of being on vacation. You can learn more about Vitali  and view his portfolio here.

Prints of Vitali’s work are available at artcycle.

Saturday Favorites

In Classic Fashion, inspiration, Interiors, photography, The Sartorialist on January 23, 2010 at 5:25 pm

It’s been a relaxing Saturday browsing blogs and stores-here are my favorite finds today-

I love Lapo Elkann-Fiat heir and Italian man about town. He’s got serious style and the confidence to pull it off. I love this shot taken by The Sartorialist.

The Perfect Trench

After a week’s worth of rain, I decided I need to upgrade my trench coat to a long lasting, classic trench. I love this one by boy by band of outsiders. Available  here.

Domino’s Darling

I adore this photo! Rather, I adore all of Melanie Acevedo’s work.Melanie was a regular Domino contributor among other well known publications. She also has a pretty solid client list.  If you check out her website, you will realize that she has probably photographed one or two of your favorite interiors also-(Jenna Lyon’s house, anyone?)  What I truly love about this particular photo are the vampy tulips and that firefly/insect clutch. I love the color combination and the calculated “mess” of objects-I feel as if they really tell a story about the owner-dark, mysterious, busy, well-read.I also adore the photo below-again, I love the colors (brighter here) and the mix of patterns. I’ve had this picture  in my file for a long time and look at it quite often. I’m glad I can finally give credit where credit is due.
