My Hundredth Post

In boho chic, cartier, eduardo garza, elliott puckette, goyard, Neutrals on March 19, 2010 at 6:45 am

This is my hundredth post and about 3 weeks shy of my blog birthday. So I thought I would celebrate with a look back at my first post, where this blog is going, and a birthday wish list.

Below is the text from my very first post:

Recently someone pegged my style as boho chic. While it depends on the day, the term stuck and I’ve been inspired ever since. As it translates to design and decorating, Boho Chic is about starting with elements you have and then just letting things evolve. It’s about collecting furnishings rather than buying to fill a space. It’s about effortlessly mixing modern with antiques; high with low; feminine with masculine. It’s about creating a relaxed space that looks and feels undone yet pulled together at the same time.

I must say that I 100 percent still agree with this design philosophy. I’m glad some things never change.

I’m also very happy to announce that Style Curator is getting a makeover. I’ve met with a website developer and am in the process of designing a new blog template. Stay tuned for the big reveal!

And now for the fun part-a blogging birthday wish list!

Cartier Love Bracelet-I’ve already had it on 2 previous wish lists so I guess I have to keep on wishing!

Fireplaces

On this rainy LA day, (a vacation day, none the less!) I am dreaming about sitting by a fireplace. When  looking through my inspiration files, I noticed all  my fireplace images seem to have one thing in common-they are beautiful, ornate, old fireplaces juxtaposed with modern furnishings or lofty spaces. These are my favorites.

Can you guess who lives here?

If she existed, I think she would live like this-surrounded by beautiful, classic expensive things, yet always ready to disappear.

Styleguide:Layering Mirrors

One of the riskier design tricks is to layer mirrors with smaller mirrors or oil-paintings. At worst,it can look gaudy and overdone. At best it can look like the rooms above. The overall effect of the images above seems to be spaces that are perfectly layered and accessorized. I think the layered mirrors add an element of completeness and the unexpected.

Chic Life- J. Crew’s Jenna Lyons

In elliott puckette, jenna lyons on April 15, 2009 at 9:18 pm

Although I might be envious of Jenna Lyons’ job as J Crew‘s creative director, I think I’m more envious of her Park Slope, Brooklyn Town home. Her home was recently featured in Domino magazine and created quite a frenzy on numerous decor blogs as well as blogs completely dedicated to anything and all J Crew. She is also interviewed in the May issue of Vanity Fair in one of my all time favorite features-My Stuff. So below, some images of her home and her answers to the Home Section of My Stuff.

The Living Room-I love the fireplace and the architectural moldings

A sitting area near the kitchen-I love the juxtaposition between the Saarinen table and the Belgian Upholstered Chairs
The Master Bath-I am currently obsessed over the herringbone parquet floors and I love the black tub.

The Piece de Resistance-Jenna’s Closet-I’m speechless.
